The funds were distributed to former members of various armed groups, with Php 3.15 million allocated to 37 former regular New People’s Army (NPA) rebels, Php 270,000 to 17 members of the Milisyang Bayan, and Php 20,000 for 20 mass supporters, according to a report from the 8th Infantry Division (8ID).

The distribution was coordinated by the Provincial Social Welfare Development Office, headed by Ms. Alma Austero, and was supported by her staff. Governor Sharee Ann Tan led the ceremony, alongside COL Carmelito T. Pangatungan Inf (MNSA) PA and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Provincial Director Judy Batulan.

Governor Tan emphasized the significance of the program in helping former rebels rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society. She expressed her gratitude to the recipients for leaving the armed struggle behind and choosing to work with the government for peace.

The former rebels expressed their deep gratitude for the financial support, which they see as a fresh start and an opportunity to rebuild their lives. They also thanked the 801st Brigade of the Philippine Army for its efforts in maintaining peace and security, recognizing the military’s vital role in their reintegration into civilian life.

In a heartfelt message, the former rebels also urged the families of those still involved with the NPA to return to the fold of the law, rejoin society, and take advantage of the peaceful opportunities offered by the government. | via Samar Chronicle
