CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines — In response to the impact of Typhoon Kristine, the Pag-IBIG Fund has announced the opening of its Calamity Loan Program along with a one-month housing loan payment moratorium for affected members in Eastern Visayas.

At the recent Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas forum, Pag-IBIG Fund Acting Area Head for North Central & Eastern Visayas, Alectys Bajarias, explained that members living or working in areas declared under a State of Calamity may apply for the Calamity Loan and the one-month moratorium to help alleviate their financial burdens.

Pag-IBIG Fund Acting Area Head for North Central & Eastern Visayas, Alectys Bajarias, announced during the recent Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas forum hosted by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) that members living or working in areas declared under a State of Calamity are now eligible to apply for the Calamity Loan. Regions 8 residents, particularly those in Northern and Eastern Samar cities and municipalities declared under a State of Calamity, are eligible for the Calamity Loan—an assistance program designed to provide relief to members during times of natural disaster. Qualified members can borrow up to 80% of their total Pag-IBIG Regular Savings with a low 5.95% annual interest rate, payable over two to three years.

For the one-month housing loan moratorium, Bajarias emphasized that payments could be deferred without incurring additional charges, providing further relief to members as they recover from the disaster’s aftermath.

Bajarias also noted that qualified members have until December 31, 2024, to apply through Virtual Pag-IBIG or at their nearest Pag-IBIG branch and satellite offices.

In addition, Bajarias shared Pag-IBIG Fund’s ongoing financial assistance efforts, highlighting its significant role in supporting Filipino workers. From July 2022 to September 2024, Pag-IBIG released more than PHP 1.42 billion in Multi-Purpose Loans, showcasing its commitment to aiding members’ financial stability and home ownership goals. Furthermore, the agency has disbursed PHP 87.4 million in calamity loans over the same period.

“The Pag-IBIG Fund remains a reliable partner for Filipino workers, supporting their dreams of homeownership and financial resilience,” Bajarias stated, adding that the agency appreciates members’ commitment to timely premium and loan payments, which strengthens Pag-IBIG’s ability to assist those in need.

With these initiatives, Pag-IBIG Fund continues to uphold its role as a trusted ally for Filipino workers, especially during challenging times. |
